ECS Systems was instructed by the project’s mechanical and electrical contractor, Wheelers Electrical, to deliver security systems for a new retirement village development.
The requirement was to provide access control and CCTV coverage across the site, in line with the client’s specification and the main electrical contractor’s programme.
The project involved a high volume of devices across multiple blocks and communal areas, so coordination with the electrical contractor was essential to maintain sequencing and avoid unnecessary repeat work.
The access control system needed to support apartment doors and shared areas, with permissions managed to maintain building security while supporting day-to-day resident access. CCTV coverage needed to be comprehensive across the development to support resident safety and provide recorded evidence where required.
ECS delivered two integrated disciplines for the development: a Salto access control system and a Hikvision CCTV system.
The access control solution was designed to secure apartment doors and communal areas, with access rights managed through the Salto platform. The system was configured to support integrations including BMS, lifts and door entry, and to accommodate third-party automated doors and locks.
The CCTV solution was designed to provide coverage across the development, with a central server and network video recorders (NVRs) supporting recording and review when incidents occur.
Both systems were configured for day-to-day management and monitoring from the landlord’s comms room and the manager’s office on site.
For access control, ECS supplied and installed Salto equipment for 200 apartment doors and over 90 online doors, including associated readers, controllers, power supplies, break glass units and hands-free request-to-exit (RTE) buttons. The installation also included the issue of over 500 access cards, a Salto server, and integration with BMS, lifts, door entry, and automated doors and locks provided by a third party.
In parallel, ECS delivered the CCTV installation, installing over 130 cameras including dome and Panoview units. The system was supported by a Hikvision central server and recording equipment, including two 64-way NVRs and one 32-way NVR, and configured to be viewed from the landlord’s comms room and the manager’s office on site.
The access control installation secures apartment doors and communal areas across the development, supporting controlled access based on the correct access rights. The CCTV system provides coverage across the blocks, supporting resident safety and ensuring incidents can be recorded and used as evidence if required.
