Powder Mill Hotel sits on an 80-acre estate at the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The main building, Powdermill House, including the proprietor’s residence and various single-storey ranges to the rear, is Grade II listed.
ECS Systems was appointed to deliver an access control solution that met the hotel’s operational needs while remaining discreet and respectful of the historic, listed building’s character.
With a listed property, the installation needed exceptional care to minimise disruption to the building fabric and preserve the architectural character.
The system also needed to support effective day-to-day management, allowing close monitoring and flexible control of access rights, with future-ready capability for mobile credentials alongside traditional guest cards.
ECS delivered a Salto access control solution tailored to the hotel’s operational and aesthetic requirements.
To reduce disruption to the listed building, ECS worked closely with Salto to implement a wireless access control approach using Salto wireless smart locks. Because wireless smart locks operate without wiring to every door, this reduced the cost, disruption and time associated with installing cabling throughout the hotel, making it well suited to a retrofit environment where drilling and cabling are undesirable.
ECS carried out the installation with exceptional care, coordinating closely with Salto and maintaining a high-quality finish so the system remained discreet and sympathetic to the building’s listed character.
The solution has been highly successful. As the client has experienced the effectiveness and seamless operation of the Salto software, they have regularly added new access points.
